Side Effects & Interactions
Do fiber supplements interfere with metabolic medications? Fiber can affect pills taken at the same time, so keep it at least 2 hours from metformin and later in the day than an oral semaglutide tablet. Weekly GLP-1 injections aren’t affected the same way, but start fiber low, drink plenty of fluid and tell your doctor, since fiber can shift blood sugar too.

Side Effects & Interactions
Do fiber supplements interfere with medications? They can reduce or slow how much of a pill is absorbed when both are taken together, so take psyllium at least 2 hours before or after prescription medicines and at least 3 hours from digoxin, aspirin and nitrofurantoin. Levothyroxine and cholestyramine have timing rules of their own.

Side Effects & Interactions
Do fiber supplements interfere with hormonal medications? Fiber can affect levothyroxine, so take your thyroid pill alone on an empty stomach and save fiber for later in the day. Birth control and estrogen for menopause don’t list fiber as an interaction, but keep any fiber supplement at least 2 hours from each prescription pill.

Side Effects & Interactions
Do fiber supplements interfere with energy medications? Fiber isn’t a listed interaction for ADHD stimulants like methylphenidate or amphetamine, but psyllium can affect how pills taken at the same time are absorbed. Take fiber at least 2 hours from each dose, often in the evening, and check caffeine and energy supplements with your prescriber.

Side Effects & Interactions
Do fiber supplements interact with mood medications? Fiber isn’t a listed interaction for common antidepressants, but psyllium can affect how pills taken at the same time are absorbed, so keep it at least 2 hours from your SSRI, tricyclic or lithium. Supplements that affect serotonin, like St. John’s wort, matter far more.

Side Effects & Interactions
Do fiber supplements interact with longevity supplements? No study has tested fiber with NMN or resveratrol, and no harmful interaction is known, but psyllium’s gel can affect how other things are absorbed. Take longevity supplements at a different meal from your fiber, and keep fiber at least 2 hours from prescription pills.

Side Effects & Interactions
Do fiber supplements interact with cholesterol medications? They can affect how pills are absorbed, so take psyllium at least 2 hours before or after a statin or ezetimibe, and 3 hours from aspirin or digoxin. Bile acid sequestrants like cholestyramine need their own schedule, and in one trial psyllium plus a statin lowered LDL more than the statin alone.

Side Effects & Interactions
Can fiber supplements make detox symptoms worse? Fiber can cause gas, bloating and loose stools, mostly from fermentable fibers like inulin, high doses or laxatives in cleanse blends, but these aren’t toxins leaving your body. Switch to one gentle fiber like psyllium, start at half the label dose with at least 8 ounces of liquid, and skip multi-ingredient cleanses.

Side Effects & Interactions
Can fiber supplements make bloating worse? Yes, mainly fermentable chicory fibers like inulin and oligofructose, or any fiber started at a full dose. Switch to psyllium or methylcellulose, start at half the label dose for a week, mix each dose with at least 8 ounces of liquid, and use one fiber product at a time.
